Ammouliani is a small island in Halkidiki, Greece. It is reached by regular ferries from the nearby fishing village of Ouranoupolis.
The small town is typical of many in Greece with restaurants, shops and several hotels, there were few tourists mingling with the locals in the taverns. It still feels unspoilt though possibly a little different in the height of the summer.
The main attraction of the island however is the numerous little bays which are hidden along the coast. None of them take long to find, are very picturesque and at least early season are deserted. Having a beautiful beach all to yourself has to be tempting!
It is easy to imagine myself here with a few friends, fishing for dinner, our catch being grilled over a barbecue made of a few rocks and driftwood off the beach. After sharing a some funny stories and bottles of wine we could retire to the hammocks strung up close by. My idea of heaven.
