Postcard from Muscat Festival, Oman; a happy place

I just love the spontaneity of this photograph, these musicians were at the Muscat Festival in Oman performing on traditional instruments of the nomadic tribes.

Whilst they were concentrating on their performance the gentleman on the right provided a big genuine smile as soon as he spotted my lens pointed in their direction. I also have another picture of the same performer providing an intense and penetrating stare, it is a powerful image but in many ways prefer the open sense of joy portrayed here.

To me it is indicative of the character of the people that were met throughout Oman, they were always friendly and seemed happy attempting to communicate even when language formed a barrier. Fishermen, traders, families and dignatories all appeared eager to spend sometime chatting and making us feel welcome.

The festival is a great place to take photographs as it displays traditional ways of life by people wearing colourful and authentic dress robes.
