The Egyptian Nile is one of the most evocative rivers in the World, its very name conjures up romantic thoughts of one of the great destinations of the World.
It is hard to think of Egypt without also thinking of the Nile, Pyramids, Pharoahs and sphinxes may all come to mind but it is hard to disregard this river.
Considered the longest river in the World it also actually passes through several other countries; Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda.
Colourful cruise boats
Taking a boat along the Nile is probably one of the great journeys that can be taken by any traveller, by colourful cruise boat or a felucca, either will likely provide an unforgettable experience.
Feluccas are the traditional sailing craft which have been used to travel along the river for centuries. I did not get the chance to take a trip on my last visit, hopefully there will be another opportunity to do so one day. After spending several days exploring Cairo, travelling by this serene form of transport to Luxor would be amazing.

The Great Pyramid at Giza is one of the icons of travel, Luxor is like a huge outdoor museum annd then museum at Cairo has to be one of the most fascinating in the world. It is impossible to see even a small proportion of the displays in a single day.
There are a few negative aspects as well, hawkers are some of the most persistent in the world and can become a little tiresome. Egypt has suffered since the ‘Arab Spring’ but will almost certainly come through this soon as it is too fascinating to stay away from for long.
